Born in South Africa to German and Belgian parents, Freya Apffelstaedt is rapidly establishing herself as one of the most exciting young contraltos of her generation. Having studied in Munich, Germany, she went on to conclude her formal training in the Young Singers‘ Project of the Salzburger Festspiele and in Opernhaus Zurich‘s International Opera Studio. As of summer 2023, she is working as a freelance opera singer and is based in Frankfurt, Germany.
